How an acupuncture needle is perceived during insertion depends largely on how easily it penetrates the upper layer of the skin, the cutis. Unlike the underlying subcutaneous tissue, the cutis contains a particularly high number of pain receptors.
That is why the tip, grind, surface, and guidance of the needle play a central role. Force measurement shows how these factors affect skin penetration and why controlled insertion behavior is a key quality aspect of acupuncture needles.

What defines the quality of an acupuncture needle
Needle quality is the result of the interplay of several factors. For asiamed, it is not a single feature that counts, but the entire chain of material, production, finishing, and inspection. Every step influences how reliably, precisely, and gently an acupuncture needle can be guided during use.

The foundation is medical-grade stainless steel with an appropriate composition and high flexural strength. Especially with very thin wire diameters, material quality is crucial for stability and safe handling.
2Precision grinding of the needle tip

The camber-ground tip is crafted to a length of just 0.2 mm. This exceptionally fine processing step is one of the most demanding stages in automated needle manufacturing.
3Careful surface smoothing

A smooth surface supports consistent needle guidance. That is why asiamed acupuncture needles are polished or electropolished to achieve a precisely engineered surface structure.
4Finishing

“After smoothing, many acupuncture needles receive an ultra-thin coating of medical-grade silicone applied along the entire length of the needle. Depending on the needle type, uncoated versions are also available. Finally, each needle is sterilized and packaged for protection.
5Quality control

Before release, the finished needles are inspected. Only products that meet defined asiamed requirements are approved for the market. This is how quality becomes a controlled process.
